Officials advised to popularize use
of organic fertilizer 12th June 2009
The President issues instructions to
popularise the immediate use of organic fertilizer to minimise threats to public health by
the use of chemical fertilizer. The Committee monitoring the encouragement of local food
production met at Temple Trees yesterday under President Rajapaksas patronage. The need to
take to organic fertilizer, assuring a stipulated price for agricultural production was
stressed. It was deliberated that priority should be given for the use of organic
fertilizer in the launch of projects to revive agricultural production in the North.
Ministers Maithripala Sirisena and Susil Premajayanth, Senior Presidential Advisor and
Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa and Presidents Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were present at

UVA Researchers to Begin Study of
Qigong and Acupuncture
Fatigue is a common complaint for anyone
who has ever undergone radiotherapy to treat breast cancer. This, along with other
symptoms such as sleep and appetite loss, can further hamper a cancer patient's quality of
life. Researchers at the University of Virginia Health System are studying whether they
can unlock the mechanisms that cause these symptoms using ancient Chinese methods for
healing. Dr. Tyvin Rich, professor in the UVA School of Medicine, believes that
acupuncture and Qigong, a Chinese form of exercise, may hold some promise.

Food Inc.
"Food, Inc. is a movie that's hard to
shake, because days after you've seen it, you will find yourself eating something -- a
hamburger, cereal out of the box, a perfectly round waxen hothouse tomato -- and realize
that you have virtually no idea what it really is."
